TPI was recently awarded HealthPartners’ highest award for clinical care – 2011 Excellence in Innovation – for their project that used Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes (FOTO) to measure the value of physical therapy services provided to patients. Value was determined by each patient’s functional change and the number of visits it took to achieve that change. TPI results were compared to FOTO’s national data base of over 2000 therapy clinics.

The project, titled “Value-Based Purchasing Model for Therapy Services“, involved collecting data on the health and cost outcomes of physical treatment using FOTO outcomes system and using that data to develop a new payment model that rewards quality outcomes.

TPI and HP continue to use a reimbursement model that rewards the value of therapy care provided to patients – effective care provided efficiently.

HealthPartners’ Excellence in Innovation award is the highest recognition in its Partners in Excellence Program which promotes The Triple Aim for healthcare reform – measurable quality, exceptional patient experience, lower total cost of care.
